A Call For Open Minds in Jazz

The recent series of posts on Nextbop have gotten me thinking about the portrayal of jazz in the mass media, and how the music must be in the future. While jazz has evolved into many different forms over the years, jazz is always shown in the same fashion in the media at large. This is because of the influence Wynton Marsalis and his ilk wield in the media at large. However, this is not necessarily an evil. All sorts of voices just must be heard in the public forum.

Femme Fatale #2: Melody Gardot

BUY MUSIC

Second lady in my Femmes Fatales series is Melody Gardot. This girl is do die for... literally. I mean her killer look from the 50s a la Sin City just gets me every time. But be careful, ladies and gentlemen, this one's feisty and a real cigar aficionado. When I met her, Ms. Gardot wouldn't bother looking at me or even addressing me a few kind words, yet she had a 15 minute conversation about cigars with Justin. I guess we can't have them all... Btw: the three best tracks are Goodnite, Worrisome Heart and Baby I'm a Fool.

Peace,
seb.

Femme Fatale #1: Esperanza Spalding

Been talking about the bad rep the mainstream media's been giving to jazz lately. Well jazz also has some of the most beautiful women around!!! So here's my new series paying tribute to my favorite jazz girls out there!!

What better way way to start than with Esperanza Spalding! I mean, this girl's incredible! She's just soooo cute! I can just feel my insides melt when I look at her pictures! AND she's also an incredibly talented artist! Doesn't she just seem like the kinda of girl you'd like to come home to in the evening? The kind of girl you're proud to introduce to your mother?

Until next time,
seb.
