Jarryd Torff is turning out to be quite the conundrum, and we couldn’t be happier about it. We first discovered the young musician as part of the now defunct Montreal-based jazz/hip-hop band Ruckus Fo’Tet, where he played saxophone. He then, for a short time, took on the moniker Cyrus, to showcase his talent as a producer and multi-instrumentalist before resorting back to using his own name. Torff has since then played saxophone in Nikki Yanofsky’s band, obtained an adjunct professor position at Carleton University in Ottawa teaching music production and has DJ’d around New York, Toronto and Montreal. Throughout all of this, Torff has managed to maintain a presence on Soundcloud with various remixes including a very dope rendition of Sam Smith’s hit “Stay with Me”. That was until two months ago when he dropped his first full-fledged EP, Islands, which was featured here on Nextbop but also on THUMP and Exclaim!. Well, the young Torff never ceases to amaze. A video featuring him on synth and bass in trio formation with Dan Bano on guitar and vocals, and Steve Wilkinson on drums has emerged on YouTube. Check out the genre-bending, upbeat and downright intoxicating video for “Feel Alright” below the jump.
