Nextbop has been a very exciting adventure indeed. We set out a little over five years ago to create a website for people to discover, or in some cases rediscover, current jazz music. We put up artist profiles with a few musicians we liked at the time in order to garner them a little attention. Today these artists are truly gaining real recognition. Tigran Hamasyan went from small French labels to Verve and now to Nonesuch. Gerald Clayton went from raising funds on ArtistShare to recording with Concord. Vijay Iyer went from smaller New York labels to ACT and now to ECM. And Yaron Herman was recently signed to Blue Note France after his stint on ACT. These are just a few of the success stories we’ve followed over the years. But we can now add another one to the book. Romain Collin, which was one of the original musicians featured on the website, has signed to ACT and is scheduled to release Press Enter on April 24th with his trio composed of Kendrick Scott on drums and Luques Curtis on bass. We are very excited for this record! When we first heard Collin, he was a little known artist who managed to release an album on Fresh Sound. He’s now come a long way and we hope that he keeps going on for a long time. Watch the EPK for Press Enter below the jump.
