Mathias Eick, the young Norwegian trumpet phenom, has probably not been mentioned enough around these parts. In 2007, Eick was awarded the International Jazz Talent given by the International Jazz Festivals Organization. He has since went on to record three albums for the prestigious ECM record label, his most recent Midwest came out digitally just last March. Eick is not only a member of the Norwegian experimental jazz band Jaga Jazzist but has also collaborated with such greats as Chick Corea, Manu Katché, Lars Danielsson and Youn Sun Nah, plus he also doubles on bass, vibraphone, piano, and guitar when given the opportunity.
