Pianist Dan Tepfer seems to always choose the road less traveled by. The young Lee Konitz protégé is just as comfortable in duo format with the master saxophonist or with multi-instrumentalist Ben Wendel as he is with a trio. In 2011, Tepfer took on the audacious and ambitious task of not only recording Bach’s famed Goldberg Variations but also improvising Variations to the Variations, all in solo format.
