Music Monday for 22 November 2010

My travels throughout the internet have brought some really great music to my attention. I figured since we haven’t done a proper Music Monday in a while (but hopefully my Line-Up reposts have tied you over quite well lately), I decided to share some of my discoveries with you here. This should tie your Monday over well.

The Robert Glasper Experiment – Butterfly (Live at 55 Bar)

The Robert Glasper Experiment Live at 55 Bar by Revive Music
I ran across this one through The Revivalist and have thusly concluded that any version of Herbie Hancock’s “Butterfly” is much better live. The only exception that comes to mind is Gretchen Parlato’s off of In A Dream, but it’s only a matter of time before a live recording surfaces in which she turns it out in her brilliant, understated way. Anyway, this performance is brilliant and you can tell that everyone involved (Glasper on keys, Chris Dave on drums, Derrick Hodge on bass, Casey Benjamin on sax and vocoder) had a chance to shine. Like I said, this live version blew me away. I need to find a download of this.

St. Germain – Rose Rouge (Cosa Nostra Chop Shop Edit)

St Germain- Rose Rouge (Cosa Nostra's chop shop edit ) by Cosa Nostra
I can’t even remember what rabbit hole I feel down to find this one, but I’m glad I did. St. Germain was always a favorite musician of mine and this remix really does this song justice.

DJ Nerstylist – Beautiful Sounds
I ran across this mix from Blind I For The Kids. I downloaded it and it sat on my BlackBerry for a few days before I took the time to download this. After that, I regretted waiting so long. What begins with soul and hip hop makes way for a complete bossa nova mix that is just downright day brightening. No, it isn’t exactly the best music for fall/winter, but I don’t care. Maybe it’s what can change your mood in dreary weather. Either way, it’s worth a download. If only I could embed this. Click the link, use the other download links. You want this mix.
