Pianist Brad Mehldau and drummer Mark Guiliana (Heernt, Jason Lindner's Now Vs Now, Gretchen Parlato, other awesome things) have worked together in the past in one-off shows and they've been quite exciting but have left the rest of the world wanting to see what more will come. Well, our desires are soon to be quenched. This coming March, the two will be embark on a tour (details to come) under the name MEHLIANA. The pair have just dropped a preview video recorded from at Stone in New York on June 6. Get excited.

It seems like only yesterday we were graced with a new Brad Mehldau record (really it was September and it was a collaboration project with classical pianist/composer Kevin Hays) and here we are withing spitting distance of a new Brad Mehldau Trio album. Ode will be released on March 13th, 2012, on longtime label Nonesuch records. The trio features Mehldau on piano, Jeff Ballard on drums and Larry Grenadier on bass. The album is composed of eleven previously unreleased original Mehldau compositions, quite the treat to longtime fans.

In case you missed it, (and I certainly would have if it weren't for the guys at Twenty Dollars) John Mayer's concert at the Hollywood Bowl last night had a special guest: [Brad Mehldau]. Check out videos of the pair performing The Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" and Mayer's own "Stop This Train." Like every other jazz and pop fan, we wish we were there.

Via Twenty Dollars and AceShowbiz

P.S. Happy BDay to Brad Mehldau from the whole Nextbop crew!!!
